Tax

It is unfortunate that GST has now increased to 5%. I will fight to reduce expenditure to ensure not only that the rate does not increase further but that a reduction in the rate could occur by further reductions in expenditure. If this is not achieved or the rate of tax was to increase then exemptions or a lower rate of GST on essential items such as food must be seriously considered. Income Tax should remain at 20% and, ideally there should be opportunities to reduce it. Further erosion of allowances for the less well off must cease. Jersey should continue to assert and defend its political autonomy and fiscal independence.
