Why I didn't stand for re-election in 2008

In 2008 the world financial crisis made new and different demands on many of us. As a businessman I had a pressing need to ensure the financial security of my family and the well-being of my employees. In short, I was forced to reassess my priorities. I judged it would be impossible to give the job of being your Deputy the attention that it deserved. I felt the honourable course was not to seek re-election.

Fortunately, those issues are very largely resolved and I am once again able to devote the time, energy and enthusiasm required to the task of representing the people of St John in the States.

Deputy Phil Rondel continues to be a hard-working politician and had he sought re-election as Deputy I would not have challenged him. Having made public his intention to stand as Constable, I saw this as my opportunity to seek election in October.
