My Family and Myself

I am 47 years old, born in Jersey and educated at St Peters Primary School and De La Salle College. Later I graduated from Amersham College, Buckinghamshire in Business Studies with Tourism.

After studying I remained in the UK for a number of years working in the Aviation industry. In 1991 I returned to Jersey and established Image Group. Together with a team of local partners and staff we have created one of the most successful marketing & design agencies in the Channel Islands. The success of the business propelled me into some prominence at an early stage - I was a finalist for the 2002 National Entrepreneur of the Year Award and was a nominee in the Jersey Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2003.

I was proposed as the youngest chairman of the Institute of Directors in 2003 - a post I relinquished when elected Deputy of St John in 2005.

Believing as I do in the development of local talent, I have participated in the States Internship scheme since its inception, mentoring young undergraduates in the design and marketing industry. I have for several years chaired the judging panel for the Jersey Enterprise awards entrepreneur of the year award and helped mentor young aspiring and talented individuals to achieve their potential. My company also sponsors and organises an annual public speaking competition for the Islands sixth formers which also identifies exceptional young people and encourages them to develop strong communication skills. I also participate in the selection and mentoring of young people who wish to participate in the IOD Work Shadow Scheme.

In 2009 I was approached to take the chair of the St John Youth & Community Trust and together with my Co- Trustees we successfully fund raised, campaigned, designed and had built the St John Skateboard Park. This project could not have been achieved without galvanising the support of the young people of the parish and their families; it was they who provided a shining example of how St John as a community can work together as a community and achieve great things.

I have lived in St John with my Jersey born wife, Kate, for 16 years. We have two sons, Harry who is 14 and 11 year old James, both of whom went to St John's primary school. As a family we are active members of the St John Church community where Kate co-ordinates the children's Sunday Club. In my spare time, I enjoy, boating, fishing low water fishing, and can be frequently seen walking the family dog around the cliff paths and green lanes of St John. However I have to admit like many of you with teenage children Kate and I spend time providing mum's and dad's taxi service for Harry and James. If that's the downside, the positive is spending time cheering from the touchline at their sporting endeavours be they football, rugby or surfing.

Open House. If elected I aim to adopt an open house policy at my home, which is in the heart of St John. I will endeavour to run regular clinics for anyone who wishes to meet with me. Any concerns that you have I want to hear them; any ideas you have I want to discuss them.
