Dear Parishioner

When you did me the honour of electing me to represent you in 2005, I felt privileged to represent the parishioners of St John and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of being a States Member.

However, in common with many of us, the world financial crisis which began in 2008 made new and different demands of me. As a businessman with a young family there was a pressing need to ensure the financial security of my wife and children and also the wellbeing of those who work for me. In short, I was forced to reassess my priorities and I judged it would not be possible to give the attention to the job of being a States member that it deserved. Under the circumstances I felt the honourable course was not to seek re-election. Fortunately, those issues are very largely resolved and I am once again able to devote the time, energy and enthusiasm required to the task of representing the people of St John in the States.

Deputy Phil Rondel continues to be a hardworking politician and had Phil sought re-election as Deputy I would not have challenged him. Having made public his intention to stand as Constable, I saw this as my opportunity to seek election in October.

I would like to think that I have a proven track record in 'getting things done'. Having made a number of commitments during the 2005 campaign I'm happy to stand on my record of achievement. For example, we managed to become the first Parish to have kerb side recycling collections, an initiative, I am pleased to say, that has now been embraced in other parishes. I'm also proud to have been instrumental in improving facilities for our youngsters; the skateboard park is something other parishes envy.

I enjoy challenges and am fully aware that, in offering myself for election as your Deputy, I face a searching test. I am not afraid of making difficult decisions and I believe that I have a track record of doing just that. I sincerely believe that I have the right mix of youthful energy, hard won experience and outright commitment to serve St John with the quality of representation that you are entitled to expect. If elected my first responsibility will be to the people of our parish and secondarily to do my very best for our Island about which I care passionately.

Please give me the opportunity by voting for Andrew Lewis on19th October.
